INSURANCE AND CLIMATE RISK

The role of insurance in building resilience and mitigating risk to prevent loss - TBA (2)

The Role of Insurance in Building Resilience and Mitigating Risk

9/20, 3:15PM - 3:45PM

Climate change and extreme weather events pose serious risks globally to communities and businesses, and have shed light on asset and infrastructure vulnerabilities. According to FM Global research, climate-related losses at commercial properties with the highest climate risk are 30 times more likely to occur and 180 times more severe than at properties with the lowest risk. This panel will discuss the crucial role the insurance sector can play in understanding climate risk –  and the importance of planning and building for resilience. We will share innovative approaches to insurance models, examples of how communities and businesses can address vulnerabilities, and discuss incentives for taking action.

Speakers:

  • Charlie Sidoti - Executive Director, InnSure
  • Stacy Swann - Founding Partner, Former CEO, Climate Finance Advisors, BLLC
  • Carmelina Borsellino - Vice President, Chief Engineer, FM Global

MEDIA & ADVERTISING

Advertisings Race to Net-Zero Emissions - Sharethrough

Unifying An Industry for Climate Action: Advertising's Race to Net-Zero Emissions

9/20, 3:45PM - 4:15PM

A single organization prioritizing sustainability can be difficult without the buy-in of the full industry and its supply chain. The digital advertising industry, which powers most of the internet, an industry with higher emissions than the global aviation industry, is in the midst of rallying the full supply chain in a race to reach net-zero emissions as soon as possible.

In this session, you will hear how any industry can learn from the speed at which the digital ad industry is prioritizing sustainability pre-competitively and hear a case study on how two organizations - Sharethrough and IPG - are working together to make an immediate improvement in the carbon footprint of their industry.

Speakers:

  • Frank Maguire - VP of Insights, Strategy & Sustainability, Sharethrough
  • Martin Bryan - Global Chief Sustainability Officer, IPG Mediabrands

CLIMATE LITERACY

Fireside Chat on Climate Literacy

Climate Literacy for Understanding and Addressing the Climate Crisis

9/20, 4:45PM - 5:15PM

The climate crisis is rooted in systems and structures that enable and require the continuous growth and utilization of natural and human resources. Because the cause of the climate crisis is in these systems, the solution must accordingly be systemic and will take engagement in collective action by individuals, communities, nations, and international entities. Climate literacy is of paramount importance because groups of people who understand the causes, effects, and implications of climate change are better able to discuss, decide on, and take actions that fit their community. Securing a safe future for all will require a transformation of human society that, in turn, requires a climate literate population that is able to discuss and collaborate on implementing solutions that are inclusive and fair for everyone.

Speakers:

  • Frank Niepold - Senior Climate Education and Workforce Program Manager and Coordinator at National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration
  • Justin Worland - Senior Climate Correspondent, TIME
