Iroro Tanshi

Iroro Tanshi is a multi award-winning conservation scientist and one of the world's leading voices in community-led conservation. Dr. Tanshi is the 2026 Goldman Environmental Prize recipient for Africa and a 2026 National Geographic/Buffett Award for Leadership in Conservation winner. Iroro is the Founder of Tropical Fire Alliance, a global initiative supporting locally led efforts to reduce destructive wildfires across tropical forests. Tropical Fire is a scale-up of the five-year zero-wildfire success in Nigeria that Iroro leads as co-Founder and Executive Director of the Small Mammal Conservation Organization. Iroro is pioneering an evidence-based, technology-optimized integrated wildfire management program that started after she survived a wildfire, following her rediscovery of a bat species thought to be extinct.
