Gonzalo Rivas-Torres
Director, Tiputini Biodiversity Station
Gonzalo Rivas-Torres is an Ecuadorian ecologist with more than 20 years of experience studying and protecting the Amazon. He is Director of the Tiputini Biodiversity Station—one of the world’s most biologically diverse research sites, and an Associate Professor at Universidad San Francisco de Quito. His work combines deep field experience, community knowledge, and cutting-edge technologies, including drones, remote sensing, molecular tools, and AI, to produce better science and drive effective conservation.
With more tan 70 scientific publications, Gonzalo leads international collaborations and works closely with local and Indigenous communities to develop innovative, inclusive solutions for preserving the Amazon and its extraordinary biodiversity.
