Jimmy Chin, the Academy Award-winning documentarian behind Free Solo, adventurer and photographer, will moderate the Ford panel, Building for a More Sustainable America, on day one of The Nest Summit. Jimmy, an avid advocate for the environment, has worked closely with Ford over the last couple years to launch the new Bronco.
Below, he shares more about how we can approach the climate change conversation differently and what inspires him about Ford’s sustainability efforts.
We are role models for the next generation. So we need to focus on the smaller actions people can take every day to demonstrate our commitment to the environment and to those around us. Supporting local and grassroots environmental efforts is a great start.
The fight against climate change has become so political, and I’d like to see more of a call to come together – to look at the fight to protect our environment not as something that polarizes us, but unites us. This requires the ability to separate climate change from politics, to resolve these issues together.
I’m a storyteller. Ford’s legacy and the narrative around the brand’s storied vehicles has always been inspiring to me. That’s why I worked closely with Ford for the past couple years to help launch the new Bronco. For me, life is also about going on adventures and exploring different parts of the world. I believe that my relationship with the outdoors enables me to bring a human perspective to Ford’s conversation around sustainability.
I’ve always been an advocate for the environment, asking people to pay attention to it, protect it, and preserve it. As a Ford ambassador, I’m in a great position to speak about our journey to sustainability and highlight the importance towards building a more sustainable America.
I’m most looking forward to hearing more about how Ford is planning to innovate around electric vehicles, how they plan to become carbon neutral by 2050, and hear about the new technologies they’re developing to create a more sustainable future for us all. I want to understand how Ford’s future will impact our future.
I look to the investments Ford has made that demonstrate their commitment to sustainability across the company. We all need to make individual and collective changes in our behavior to protect the environment, and that requires a shift in the understanding and action among the broader public.
Ford has been helping lead that cultural shift with their ongoing commitments to environmental progress. From responsibly sourcing raw materials and fleet electrification, to DE&I initiatives and carbon + waste neutrality, Ford is rolling out sustainability practices that can be applied across the business landscape.
We’re already ahead of the game because climbers and adventurers are by nature environmentalists… We love being outdoors and want to take care of what we love.
Personally, I gravitate towards thoughtfully executed function and design. The best vehicles in my mind represent the perfect intersection of the two.
